Malaysia’s civil servants, especially those in the implementation group, are on the brink of a significant salary increase. According to the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, the salary increment through the Public Service Remuneration System (Sistem Saraan Perkhidmatan Awam, SSPA) could go up to 42.7%. The general outline of this salary hike will be available starting next week when the relevant guidelines are distributed.

Salary Increment Guidelines

“The guidelines regarding the salary increment for civil servants will be distributed starting next week. Therefore, beginning next week, we will get a general idea of the salary increase for civil servants, which is expected to range from 15% to 47%,” Fahmi stated in a post-Cabinet meeting press conference.

Focus on Implementation Group

Fahmi also explained that this increase would be the highest for the implementation group. For higher-level groups like the Chief Secretary to the Government (Ketua Setiausaha, KSU) and Directors General, the increments will be more moderate. This emphasis reflects the Madani Government’s commitment to ensuring that those who need financial support the most are adequately addressed.

Financial Implications

The Cabinet has highlighted several considerations related to the financial implications of this salary increase. These implications are not only discussed in Cabinet meetings but will also be part of the 2025 Budget presentation in Parliament on October 18.
Fahmi emphasized, “For details, especially regarding the amount required for the salary increment, the specifics can be seen in the 2025 Budget document.” This careful preparation by the government ensures that the salary increment will be implemented smoothly without adversely affecting the national finances.

Efforts by the Madani Government

Additionally, Fahmi mentioned that the Ministry of Human Resources (Kementerian Sumber Manusia, Kesuma) is continuing its efforts in registering companies interested in participating in the progressive wage policy program. Private companies that are not yet registered and wish to do so can contact Kesuma for further information.

According to Fahmi, “The Madani government’s efforts aim not only to increase the salaries of civil servants but also to help the private sector see or enhance the income and wages of private sector employees.” This holistic approach reflects the government’s dedication to ensuring the overall economic well-being of Malaysian citizens.
